AstraZeneca Walks Back On its COVID-19 ‘No-Profit’ Pledge

Among the many pharma companies racing to develop a safe, effective vaccine for COVID-19, AstraZeneca stands out for its pledge to not try and profit off its vaccine until after the pandemic ends. But therein lies the rub: AstraZeneca gets to say when the pandemic is over in this case. That’s according to a memo of understanding between AstraZeneca and a Brazilian drugmaker. The company hasn’t provided many details as to how it will make that determination but a company spokesman said, “We will seek expert guidance, including from global organizations.” Read more here.
