Costello Medical’s Danielle Sheard and Sara Steeves take a look at some key aspects of publication planning in a recent article published on the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals’ website.
One significant, albeit time-consuming, tool in a research team’s toolkit is gap analysis, a key tool to for developing a “comprehensive understanding of the clinical data and scientific literature in a therapeutic area.”
“Gap analysis involves appraisal of the scientific literature to identify topics that have been covered extensively in the literature or, conversely, have been covered in limited detail or not at all,” the authors state. “Conducting an effective gap analysis requires a significant amount of resource, so the publication planning team should consider whether the investment is worthwhile.”
