An article published in the March issue of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research focuses on the “affordability issue.”
The authors, Office of Health Economics’ Sarah Schaffer, Jorge Mestre-Ferrandiz and Adrian Towse, and the Center for Medical Technology Policy’s Donna Messner and Ellen Tambor, review “innovative payment solutions” which address the affordability issue.
After analyzing several solutions, the authors found “that there is a mismatch between the enthusiasm in the academic literature for developing new approaches and the scepticism of payers that they can work or are necessary.”
