June 21, 2022

People from marginalized groups often face systemic bias that worsens their health outcomes. To combat this problem, the American Medical Association has announced a new initiative to bring equitable, quality patient-centered care to people of all backgrounds. The initiative comes will provide a year long mentorship to help health systems make racial justice and equity a priority.

According to Andis Robeznieks, “The AMA collaborated with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and The Joint Commission to create the program, which merges patient-centered approaches to quality and safety with robust structural analyses of racism and equity to support an overall mission of delivering equitable, high-quality care to every single patient.”
