Although PillPack is significantly smaller than Walgreens and CVS, the pharmacy management company could make waves after it’s absorbed by tech giant Amazon, according to an MM&M report.
PillPack, according to the report, has only some 40,000 customers.
However, PillPack’s home delivery system for prescription drugs stands to help pharmaceutical companies post stronger patient adherence. A survey conducted by DRG Digital reported 34 percent of patients who struggle with adherence are more likely to fill their prescriptions with home deliveries.
The model also opens the door for pharma to partner with Amazon to offer patients support and education programs.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for pharmas to get this valuable patient education and patient support content they’ve created out to patients,” DRG Digital Principal Analyst Matt Arnold says. “If Amazon becomes a huge player in drug distribution and pharmas can partner with them to push out patient support resources, financial assistance, etc., I think that offers a powerful channel for distributing patient support.”
