AHIP: MCO’s Generated $6.5 Billion in Medicaid Savings in 2018

February 26, 2020

A new report by America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) suggests managed care organizations were able to save Medicaid programs roughly $6.5 billion on prescription drugs in 2018.

According to a HealthPayerIntelligence report, AHIP partnered with The Menges Group to check the savings of managed care organizations against fee-for-service programs.

“While people with Medicaid are protected from the high costs of many prescription drugs, the cost of covering drug benefits for Medicaid participants has increased significantly in recent years, due largely to the rising cost of specialty and generic drugs,” AHIP said.
