A recent commentary by Pro Pharma Pharmaceutical Consultants, Inc., offers a look at some options that could help address the rising cost burden being shifted onto patients.
According to the report, some options include:
- Spotlight the employer and patient to find ways to trim costs;
- Employees could contract directly with health systems;
- Patients may address in pharmaceutical companies that make their drug to cut profits against their therapy costs; and
- Patients can attempt crowdfunding.
The report states the sometimes crippling costs associated with health care can force a patient to borrow money from either friends or family or take out a bank loan.
“Paying this cost back could be impossible for some patients when many loans (have) an annual percentage rate of ~10 percent for individuals with good credit,” according to the report.
