Aetna Return to ACA Exchanges Reflects Industry-Wide Trend Amid COVID-19 Relief Package Boost

The Aetna insurance division of the CVS Health Corp. will return to the ACA (Affordable Care Act) exchanges in 2022. Experts see the move as a sign that the individual insurance market is becoming increasingly appealing for payers. This Aetna move is expected to be one of many similar shifts in the industry. At the same time, Biden’s COVID-19 economic relief plan may make the market even more attractive by subsidizing many benchmark-plan premiums.

According to CVS CEO Karen Lynch, “After careful consideration, we have decided to reenter the individual public exchange market as of January 1, 2022,” adding, “As the ACA has evolved, there is evidence of market stabilization and remedies to earlier issues.” Learn more here.
