Aetna and Ascension recently announced plans to join the Synaptic Health Alliance, a health care initiative aimed at exploring ways blockchain technology could help tackle provider data issues, according to a Healthcare Informatics report.
The roster involved in the effort now consists of Aetna, Ascension, Humana, MultiPlan, Quest Diagnostics, and UnitedHealth Group’s Optum and UnitedHealthcare.
“Providing consumers looking for care with accurate information when they need it is essential to a high-functioning overall healthcare system,” officials said.
According to the report, Aetna serves some 22 million beneficiaries. Ascension is ranked among the largest health systems in the U.S., and “brings a care provider-centric viewpoint to the Synaptic Health Alliance o the complexities of contributing to accurate care provider directories,” officials said.
