75% of Insured Americans Worry About Medical Bills – Women Disproportionately Impacted

December 9, 2021

According to the recent MITRE Insurance Survey, 75% of insured Americans are worried about financial issues due to medical bills. This may be due, in part, to a lack of understanding of insurance plans and surprise charges from insurance companies. In addition, women, who are more likely to be responsible for healthcare decisions in their households, report significantly higher rates of stress over these prospects.

The director of the poll, Rob Jekielek, adds, “There is a consumer education gap to fill when it comes to health insurance….as older generations (Gen X and Boomers) are twice as likely, versus younger generations (Gen Z and Millennials), to say that the primary responsibility of making insurance plans easier to understand is with insurance companies.”
