4 Trends to Watch in 2022 for Payers and Providers

As the pandemic drags into its third year, COVID-19 is still shaping the state of the healthcare industry. In a new Healthcare Dive article, Samantha Liss lists four critical trends for payers and providers to look out for in 2022. Payers are experiencing shifting disruptions as Medicare and Medicaid swell in members and patients put off care. In addition, labor shortages and traveling agencies are driving up labor costs for hospitals.

According to Liss, “For some hospitals, salaries, wages and benefits can account for anywhere between 45% to 50% of revenues – a massive cost item, Eric Axon, senior healthcare analyst for CreditSights, said. For hospitals, wage inflation “is going to be a persistent theme for the years ahead,” Axon said in a recent webinar.
