President Donald Trump called a new proposal aimed at combating high drug prices a “revolutionary change,” according to a Modern Healthcare report.
The Trump administration recently proposed the first, mandatory Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services payment model, which will look to drive down prices for some Medicare drugs in tandem with prices in foreign countries.
“The U.S. will finally being to confront one of the most unfair practices … that drives up cost,” he said. ” … No one had the courage to do it, or they didn’t want to do it.”
The Department of Health and Human Services says the proposal could lead to more than $17.2 billion in savings over five years for the government and Medicare beneficiaries.
