Survey: Americans Dissatisfied with Legislative Efforts on Drug Pricing

A recent survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that a clear majority of Americans remain dissatisfied with actions taken by Congress and the Trump administration to curb drug prices, according to an article published in the American Journal of Managed Care.

The survey also found that 82 percent of respondents said medical costs are their main financial burden.

“The fact that a majority of American adults used prescription medications is likely driving the issue of drug affordability as a policy priority,” the article’s authors write. “Nearly 3 in 5 American adults take at least 1 prescription drug, which is up markedly since 2000.”

The authors say stakeholders with an interest in tackling high prescription drug prices must consider both the price tag accrued by patients, as well as the remaining portion picked up by payers.
