Researchers were surprised at the number of errors involving clinical trial registries after having examined some 10,492 trials registered on both ClinicalTrials.gov and the EU Clinical Trials Register (EUCTR).
According to Outsourcing-Pharma.com, the study found 16.2 percent of dual-registered trials had discrepancies in their completion status while 33.9 percent of trials marked on EUCTR as “ongoing” were marked as “completed” on ClinicalTrials.Gov.
“We work a lot with trial registry data, and often find it to be inaccurate,” said University of Oxford’s Ben Goldacre. “We found that the completion status is very commonly wrong, and that the errors seem to be on the EU trial register. I expected errors, but I was very surprised by the scale of errors.”
