House legislators are moving forward with legislation aimed at reducing drug prices after House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone Jr., a Democrat, and Republican Rep. Greg Walden reached a bipartisan deal, The Hill reports.
The bill was expected to advance out of committee following a vote Wednesday.
“I do want to thank the Committee leadership for working with us on a number of the drug pricing bills that we will take up today,” Walden said Wednesday. “We needed to ensure these bills didn’t unintentionally stifle competition and drive up drug prices by accident.”
According to the report, the pharmaceutical industry’s lobbying efforts played a key role in the bill’s stalled progression.
