New Guidance Enables States to Convert Medicaid Funding into Block Grant
February 1, 2020
A new initiative rolled out earlier this week by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) aims to let states convert Medicaid funding into a block grant, Fierce Healthcare reports.
According to the report, states who receive a waiver are permitted to change the benefits for a limited population.
The initiative has received stiff opposition from a number of major organizations.
“Medicaid block grants have rightly been rejected by Congress,” Federation of American Hospitals President and CEO Chip Kahn said. “Rebranding them under the thin veil of a demonstration doesn’t change the fact they would lead to arbitrary cuts that will weaken Medicaid for those most in need.”
