Health care costs and value were the hot topics during AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting, according to a recent blog post.
Panelists discussed using value-based care models in Medicare, including bundled payments and merit-based payment strategies, according to the report. Experts said more research was necessary to discover how some proposed value-based models could help reduce spending.
According to the post, a pediatric health panel suggested too much time was being spent discussing reduced spending as opposed to improved outcomes.
“Yes, reducing spending is important, but shouldn’t improving outcomes be the first priority?” the report says.
