Natural Cycles, a contraceptive in the form of a smartphone app, could fall under the Affordable Care Act’s requirement for payers to cover contraceptives, according to a STAT report.
The Food and Drug Administration approved the fertility app in August.
“This is now an FDA-approved method,” National Women’s Mara Gandal-Powers, director of birth control access and senior counsel, told STAT. “I think it should [be covered].”
However, how insurers would cover the smartphone app, which costs $79 annually or $9.99 per month, remains unclear.
