Hospitals and payers say the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation should boost interoperability, develop and deliver more value-based payment plans and bolster telehealth coverage.
The recommendations, according to a Fierce Healthcare report, were part of the CMS Innovation Center’s 2017 request for information which was issued in a bid to uncover methods to cut spending and deliver stronger outcomes.
CMS says the Innovation Center garnered some 1,000 responses to the RFI from insurers, consumers and consumer groups, physicians and a number of other entities.
“(Medicare) has taken a number of steps over the last seven years to facilitate the movement away from a fee-for-service system that rewards volume and towards one that emphasizes value, quality, and innovation, but more can be done to truly transform healthcare payment and delivery,” Anthem officials said.
