The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Monday, April 29, announced a new initiative which will look to move primary care out of a fee-for-service model and into a global fee model, according to a Modern Healthcare report.
During an event in Washington, HHS Secretary Alex Azar said the new programs will transition about a quarter of Medicare beneficiaries out of a fee-for-service model.
The initiative would enable practices and health systems to engage in a dynamic risk system.
“Basically what the model will do is have providers competing for beneficiaries,” Azar said during the event.
