An independent advisory group, the President’s Cancer Panel, urged the White House to take swift action to address the burdensome costs of cancer care.
The report, which was released Monday, outlines six recommendations to better align drug prices with their value, promote the use of high-value therapies and back innovation in cancer drug research.
“We’re not just racing to find cures, we’re racing to find ways to lower the cost of cures, and support innovative ideas like value-based pricing to make health care more affordable to all,” Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center President and Director Gary Gilliland said.
Gilliland was involved with workshops that led to the report.
The President’s Cancer Panel has provided sitting presidents reports on high-priority issues in the fight against cancer since 1971.
