Dennis Deruelle, TeamHealth vice president, physician and national medical director for value-based care, says Congress should use value-based insurance design to create a system of equal accountability under Medicare’s Part D program.
Deruelle says Congress allocated a significant amount of cost burden to drug companies under the program, while insurance companies carry a far lighter load.
“The future of health care is teams, insurers, doctors, hospitals, drug companies and pharmacies, and patients,” she writes in a column published on the Washington Times. “Why put the only member of the team with the least influence over patient care at the highest risk for cost control?”
