Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar says President Donald Trump’s administration will double down on its efforts to shine a brighter spotlight on value, Managed Healthcare Executive reports.
The administration, he said during the AHIP National Health Policy Conference in Washington on Sunday, views payers and providers as allies in the push to deliver more robust care at lower costs.
“We at HHS see stakeholders, including America’s health insurers, as part of the solution to this country’s many health care challenges,” Azar said. ” … This is no time to be timid; today’s health care system is simply not delivering outcomes commensurate with its cost.”
According to the report, Azar said some payers have taken the reins on value, but federal programs have lagged behind.
“We are not afraid of disrupting the system simply because it is backed by special interests,” Azar said.
