U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said the department must broaden its efforts to bolster price transparency in the health care system.
“HHS can play a role in driving broader change,” he said. “And in many cases, such is the scale of our programs, if we’re not serving as an innovator, we may be standing in the way.
Azar made the comments during the annual meeting of the World Health Care Congress Wednesday in Washington, according to a Fierce Healthcare report.
As part of the efforts to deliver stronger transparency to consumers, HHS through a request for information is asking industry experts to offer their thoughts on ways to expand price transparency.
