Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar is a “sharp break” from former secretary Tom Price, the New York Times’ Margo Sanger-Katz writes in an Upshot report.
Azar, who is anticipating the opportunity to create new regulations for the health care industry, stands apart from the Trump administration’s cabinet which has made clear its deregulatory ambitions.
“Alex is night and day from Tom Price,” Avalere Health President Dan Mendelson tells the Times. “He knows where all the levers in the department are.”
Sanger-Katz in her report said Azar is a “strange fit” given his previous position as president of Eli Lilly’s U.S. division, where drug costs increased under him.
