A recent Health Populi blog post offers a look at how the European health care market is evolving toward a single-payer system.
According to the post, there are several key issues presented in a European Council communication adopted by the European Economic and Social Committee:
- Ensure citizens’ access to health data;
- Enable personalized medicine; and
- Use digital tools to empower citizens.
The EC’s report included survey data from 1,4000 European Union citizens, and found that 83 percent believe sharing health data could boost treatment, diagnosis and disease prevention.
“On the downside, major barriers to peoples’ willingness to share their health data center on risks of privacy breaches and cybersecurity risks,” Jane Sarasohn-Kahn writes in her post.
