A Look at California’s Plan to Make Generic Drugs

A recent report by The Sacramento Bee takes an in-depth look at California’s plan to manufacture its own generic drugs to combat high drug prices.

The proposal, which was included in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2020 budget plan, would make California the first state to manufacture its own drugs.

While the administration has been tight-lipped on the issue so far, Newsom hinted that insulin was on the agenda.

“One guarantee of this not working is telling you who we’re negotiating with,” Newsom said. “But I can tell you things like insulin are top of mind.”
