This position is for the leadership role in the data science business responsible for leading a primarily virtual team of European based individuals in delivery of retrospective research. Specifically, the role will require expertise and the ability to train and lead a multi-country team in the design and execution of retrospective data analyses, focusing mostly on electronic health records, existing disease and treatment registries, health care claims for reimbursement from both open and closed health claims systems, and existing global medical chart abstractions.

You will work with the top names in academia and industry on producing real-world evidence in support of health technologies, including conducting comparative effectiveness research, evaluation of safety programs, post marketing safety surveillance studies, epidemiology, health economics research, patient reported outcomes, and health services research methods. You will engage epidemiologists, health economists, outcomes researchers, market access and clinical leaders in the life sciences industry to develop business opportunities and produce a stream of revenue for on-going study work.

The role requires matrix leadership experience to drive methodology and consistent quality of a team of researchers for live engagements, and the development of new offerings, particularly in safety research. You will be expected to provide guidance to the team as well as be responsible for the financial delivery against personal business development targets. Most of the retrospective research team reside in different country organizations and will not report directly into this position. This role and the broader retrospective research team is supported by a dedicated advanced analytics team responsible for the statistical analyses design and execution.

Principal Responsibilities:
• Drives harmonization by leading a team of EU country based research scientists and analytic staff in the design and conduct of retrospective studies and registries through the above described matrix role
• Ensures delivery against personal financial business targets
• Leads offering development for new technologies, approaches or methods for delivering efficient and high quality research
• Drives retrospective production efforts in the EU
• Builds and aligns the European Quality Management Systems for retrospective research within the Global Quality Management System and warrants compliance with that system and consistent quality of deliverables
• Participates in protocol development, research design, and statistical analysis plans where needed.
• Serves as expert with clients to provide guidance regarding regulatory requirements for pharmacovigilance and safety analyses
• Establishes relationships/partnerships with specialist third party organizations, world experts, academic institutions to apply advanced statistical methods such as propensity score weighting and instrumental variables to adjust for confounding to large data sets in consultation with the advanced analytics group
• Leads proactive business development activities including proposal development and client relationship building
• Presents insights and perspectives to client executive management, external professional bodies, conferences etc.
• As part of the senior leadership team, assists in strategic planning
• Build EU curriculum for retrospective research, and mentors select junior staff in developing methodological expertise in statistical methods, epidemiology, and health services research
• Develops publications in peer-reviewed journals that showcase research excellence of IMS staff in epidemiology, pharmacovigilance, health economics, comparative effectiveness and safety analyses

• Postgraduate degree in statistics, health services research, epidemiology, medicine, health economics, public policy analysis or related field
• Substantial experience in retrospective health or medical research, ideally in more than one country in Europe, using secondary data, such as health care claims or electronic health records
• Experience working with a research team in a consulting, pharmaceutical, or academic setting
• Recognized by clients as a deep subject matter expert in retrospective research or epidemiology
• Previous experience in the design, execution and write up of research projects for professional publication; this includes expertise in working with multiple data sets to generate insightful analysis
• Strong budget, project management and organizational skills
• Quality focus and sufficient business acumen to drive productization
• Established matrix or virtual team leadership skills with ability to navigate and effectively manage multi-disciplinary teams within complex organizations
• Strong intellectual curiosity and affinity for problem solving and innovation
• Excellent presentation and client management skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines with high quality deliverables
• Previous professional publications
