According the report, solid strides have been made toward stronger payment models.
Catalyst for Payment Reform Program Director Andrea Caballero says some 40 percent of commercial payments to physicians and hospitals in 2014 included a “quality” component.
Those numbers were significantly lower in previous years, with only 11 percent in 2013 and between 1 to 3 percent in 2010.
“The increase from 2013 to 2014 suggests rapid growth in implementing payment reform,” Caballero told Managed Healthcare Executive. “In 2016, the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network released a study announcing that 25 percent of payments to doctors and hospitals are in alternative payment models, which are more advanced, population-based methods.”
